Capt. Michael Goodwin Memorial Fund honors fallen Philly firefighter

The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 22 has set up a new fund in honor of deceased Philadelphia firefighter Michael Goodwin.

Goodwin died April 6 while battling a blaze along Fabric Row in Queen Village when the roof of the building collapsed. Firefighter Andrew Godlinski was injured.”We vowed to Mike’s family, as we have to all families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, that we will always stand by them and take care of them,” Local 22 President Bill Gault said in the announcement. “There will be many difficult days ahead for the Goodwin family, emotionally and financially.”

Since his death, Goodwin has been posthumously promoted and honored by the city during a ceremony that was also dedicated to Lt. Robert Neary, and Firefighter Daniel Sweeney. Neary and Sweeney died last year.
