Camden – Frontline in the battle to contain health care costs

If you want a ray of hope amid the depressing news about Washington gridlock over the debt ceiling, check out this Frontline segment on an innovative effort to improve care for chronically sick people and cut health care costs in Camden.

It’s about a remarkable doctor named Jeffrey Brenner who happened upon a shooting victim, then started asking questions. The piece is reported by Atul Gwande, the phyisician-journalist from Boston who’s written several influential pieces on the health care system.

I interviewed Gwande for Fresh Air back in January, and Marty Moss-Coane had Brenner in for a Radio Times session in February.

A hat tip to Newsworks producer Lindsay Lazarski, who brought this to my attention and reminds us all what a terrific program Frontline is. It airs at 9 p.m. on WHYY, Channel 12.
