Bus company suspended after Turnpike crash

The Department of Transportation has announced the suspension of operations of Super Luxury Tours Inc. following a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike earlier this month that killed the driver and a passenger from Royersford.

After a Senate hearing chaired by N.J. Democrat Frank Lautenberg, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration revoked the bus company’s operating permissions due to its safety records being in the bottom 1 percent for motor coach companies, the Associated Press reports.

Legislation was introduced yesterday to increase bus safety, and Lautenberg has called for the enforcement of similar laws passed in 2009.
