A brush fire is burning in a marshy area near the Raritan River in Edison this afternoon, authorities say.
New Jersey Forest Fire Service spokesman Chris Franek said that state fire crews responded along with local fire units shortly after the blaze broke out around 2 p.m.
There are three separate brush fires involving 25 to 30 acres, he said.
The fires are off Sweetwater Lane in an area that is prone to wildfires.
Aerial video from WNBC showed fire approaching an isolated building near railroad tracks. The pilot said that its appeared that firefighters had the blaze surrounded.
The smoke column is visible throughout the area. JSHN contributor Rachel Fritz reported seeing smoke 10 miles south of the scene in Monmouth County.
