The body matching the description of the woman who went missing after night swimming off northern Ocean County has been found on the beach miles south, authorities say.

Police believe the discovery late Sunday night by an off-duty lifeguard in the Ocean Beach 2 section of Toms River is Zuzana Oravcova, 24, of Slovakia.

The identity is pending confirmation, according to police.

Oravcova, an employee on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk, went swimming with Thomas Kadlec, 23, also of Slovakia, in Point Pleasant Beach around 2 a.m. Sunday, police said Sunday.

Both became distressed in the rough water, and Kadlec was able to swim to shore. He notified a boardwalk employee who then called police.

That sparked a search from the air and sea involving local, state, and Coast Guard personnel which was ultimately suspended late Sunday night.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time,” said Capt. Scott Anderson, Commander of Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. “Suspending a search is always a difficult decision and it’s something we don’t take lightly.”
