Blackwood resident won’t be in Spelling Bee semifinals

Two correctly spelled words weren’t enough to get Bisma Nasir into the Scripps National Spelling Bee semifinals.

Patch reports the Blackwood resident and Glen Landing Middle Schools student failed to qualify for the next round of the spell-off, which takes place today.
Nasir made it to Round 3 by spelling calypso and recalcitrant, but those scores are combined with the computer test results that all 278 contestants took Tuesday.

The semifinals began at 10 a.m., and the finals will air on ESPN tonight at 8. Scripps has some fun facts about this year’s spellers.
