Today is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Today’s awareness day is designed to bring attention to the disproportionate HIV/AIDS infection rates in the African American community.

More about the day and events in your area here.

The Centers for Disease Control recently reported that while African Americans make up 14 percent of the U.S. population, they account for 50 percent of all diagnosed HIV cases. Listen to Morning Edition for WHYY reporter Mara Zapeda’s report, or read it here online.
