Bike Race committee grades crowd control efforts

If there were a Most Improved award for the Bike Race, the combined efforts of neighborhood organizations, government agencies and the police department would win.

A meeting held Wednesday by the ad-hoc Bike Race committee graded this year’s rowdiness patrol a ‘B.’ Much better compared to last year’s ‘F.’

Manayunk, Roxborough and Wissahickon residents were pleased with the help from the police, Liquor Control Board and Department of Licenses & Inspections in preventing and quelling the rowdiness that had become synonymous with the annual race, as NewsWorks’ Aaron Moselle reports.

The committee has already begun looking ahead to tie in some family-friendly events and concentrate the police presence throughout other parts of the neighborhoods.
