Battleground Twitter: Nutter, firefighter unions at it again
Can’t we all just get along?
Mayor Nutter and the city’s firefighter unions are back at it again. But this time it’s not about closing firehouses, or paying wages. It’s over online etiquette: specifically, the do’s and don’ts of Facebook and Twitter.
Philly.com reports that the Nutter administration issued rules to the unions in the form of a three-page memo prohibiting “any comments or images about patients, racial slurs, any other defamatory comments and anything that may affect the efficiency or effective operation of the department.”
“Employees are also forbidden from posting “any information or images involving off-duty activities that may bring a member’s or the department’s reputation into question.” Failure to comply could lead to disciplinary action.”
The union plans to file a grievance and believes that the guidelines should have been bargained.
