Bastille Day Celebrations return to Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary is hosting the 19th annual Bastille Day Festival this Saturday, July 13, honoring the anniversary of the turning point of the French Revolution.

The festival will include a performance by the caberat troupe, The Bearded Ladies, along with many other activities, including: 

appearances by Napoleon, Joan of Arc, Benjamin Franklin, a life-size French Baguette, and others
a mock storming of the Bastille
and 3,000 Tastycakes being thrown over the towers (a nod to Marie Antoinette’s “Let them eat cake!”)

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at the Eastern State Penitentiary, 2020 Fairmount Avenue. Standard admission is free but you can buy VIP tickets, which includes front-row seats and early admission, here
