Atlantic City police officers resume casino garage patrols until court weighs in

The court may not have decided yet who has authority over the Atlantic City police patrols, but a judge has something to say in the meantime.

A.C. filed a suit last week against the county prosecutor, determined to find out if City Hall or police brass have say over where officers patrol. Police began patrolling casino parking garages last month after a fatal carjacking until Mayor Lorenzo Langford issued an executive order to stop them.

The county prosecutor issued his own order, overriding Langford’s decision and then becoming the subject of the suit.

According to an Associated Press report, a judge yesterday said police can continue patrols of the garages until the court weighs in, calling Langford’s order an attempt to “micromanage” the police department.
