Atlantic City casinos want voters to help legalize sports betting

A couple things need to happen before you can walk into an Atlantic City casino and start betting on sports:

    1. Voters must pass a ballot referendum calling on legislators to amend the state constitution.

    2. Legislators then have to overturn the federal ban on sports betting.

Casinos are hopeful, and are calling on voters to do their part in November to pass the referendum, as the Press of Atlantic City reports.

There’s a line drawn right now between those who think sports betting can boost the resort’s struggling casinos and those who worry legalized sports betting will lead to cheating.

The federal ban exempts only Nevada, Delaware, Oregon and Montana, which legalized sports betting before the 1992 ban was enacted.
