Arrest made in killing of N.J. police officer

Police have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in the murder of a New Jersey police officer, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Sunday morning.

According to a report on MyFoxPhilly, Jahmell Crockam is accused of shooting Lakewood Patrolman Christopher Matlosz Friday afternoon after the officer drove up to him and began to question him.

More than 100 law enforcement officers had been combing the area for the suspect since the shooting.

On Friday afternoon Matlosz, 27, questioned Crockam from his patrol car in a routine stop when Crockam, who was on foot, allegedly fired three shots at the officer. The four-year veteran of the police force died shortly after the shooting.
