Appeal puts Housing Authority property in danger of razing

A win for Graduate Hospital neighbors could cause a serious headache for the Phildelphia Housing Authority. As if it already didn’t have one.

The South of South Neighborhood Association won an appeal yesterday that will require changes to an already-built disabled senior housing unit at 1003-1011 S. 20th Street.

PHA built the site in 2010 with Zoning Board approval, despite concern from residents that the building design clashses with that of the rest of the neighborhood.

The appeal puts PHA and the ZBA at fault, and now requires PHA to make design alterations or raze the building. All done, as NakedPhilly points out, with public money.
