Ann Weaver Hart to step down as Temple University president

Five years after her arrival at Temple University, President Ann Weaver Hart says she’s stepping down to care for her ailing mother.

Temple has confirmed Hart’s decision to NewsWorks, and we’re tracking this developing story. Hart plans to leave in June, and the search will begin immediately to install a new president by the Fall 2012 semester.

Hart’s most recently noted for her Temple 20/20 project to expand and renovate the campus and connect it with the surrounding neighborhoods. She came to Philadelphia from the University of New Hampshire, and on campus, has long been compared with her predecessor David Adamany.

While there Adamany bumped heads with faculty, but was touted by students for his transparency. The Temple News recently called on Hart to take a similar approach.
