After Iowa: Are you paying attention?

    Are you paying attention to the Iowa caucus? The New Hampshire primary? Looking ahead to primaries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, do you think you’ll vote?

    They say to keep the conversation polite among friends, it is always best to avoid the subjects of politics and religion. That’s a little harder to do in a presidential election year.

    Are you paying attention to what’s happening in Iowa and New Hampshire, the earliest among the series of party caucuses and primaries that comprise the American presidential election year? 

    Republican candidates have been making a lot of noise with rallies, interviews, stump speeches, attack ads—each one attempting to outshout the other. Is it an important part of the democratic process, or is it, as Rolling Stone‘s Matt Taibbi suggests, a “meaningless sideshow“?
