Above the waist

The best way to prevent teen pregnancy (and encourage sexual responsibility) is by bolstering their emotional support and encouraging self-esteem. That’s how to successful programs approach it, anyway.

Wilmington’s West End and parts of North Philadelphia are trying out programs that give teens “above the waist” education with the hopes those life skills will lead to better sexual decisions.

As Taunya English reports for WHYY, the programs, which get federal funding, have already proven more successful than abstinence-only or sex ed lessons.
