9-year-old girl hit, killed while crossing street in Philly suburb overnight

A 9-year-old girl in the Philadelphia suburbs was hit and killed while crossing the street.

Police say the child stepped out from between two parked cars in Abington shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday and was hit by an 18-year-old Abington woman.

The Intelligencer of Doylestown reports the teen driver did not immediately stop. Police say she drove less than a mile to a parking lot and called her mother, who went to the crash scene and told authorities where to find her daughter.

Police declined to release the driver’s name.
