39th District: Thief arrested while cutting wire from a pole atop a 40′ ladder

April 12: 3200 block N. 15th St. – copper wire stolen from a pole. A witness said she saw the offender holding a ladder, which he climbed to cut the pole. Police arrived at the scene to find the offender working on the pole with a hatchet. The offender was then arrested.

April 8, 2011

3000 W. Abbotsford Ave. – 1999 Ford Explorer stolen between 6:30 a.m. April 6 and 3:45 p.m. April 8. Complainant said the car broke down on the expressway and PennDOT pushed it to the location. When he returned later, the car was gone.

3600 block N. 18th St. – tires, rims and caps stolen from a car. Complainant said someone jacked up the vehicle between 1-7 a.m. April 8 and stole the listed items. The offender replaced the left side wheels of the vehicle with other tires.

1700 block W. Ontario St. – complainant drove his car after the PPA placed a boot on it. The boot broke apart. Parts of the boot were not recovered.

N. 27th St. / W. Indiana Ave. – vehicle stolen just after 6 p.m. April 5. Complainant said he got out of his car for a minute. When he turned around, someone had entered and vehicle. The offender then sped off.

April 9, 2011

4500 block Morris St. – 2001 Kia Optima stolen between 10 p.m. April 6 and 4 p.m. April 7.

4200 block N. Sydenham St. – complainant said three men approached him and robbed him at gunpoint. The offenders ran off with a wallet containing IDs, $10 and an iPhone.

1400 block W. Clearfield St. – 1999 Ford Crown Victoria stolen between 12-3 a.m. April 9.

2000 block W. Mayfield St. – 32” Olevia flat screen TV and a Samsung laptop were stolen between 8:30-10:15 p.m. April 9.

3400 block W. Clearfield St. – 2002 Ford Crown Victoria stolen between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. April 10.

3300 block N. 21st St. – complainant said an acquaintance raped her.

April 11, 2011

3400 block N. Carlisle St. – backpack, IBM laptop, iPod, school books and an ID stolen from a 2001 Honda Civic. Complainant said someone broke her rear driver side window between 8-9:30 a.m. April 11.

3500 block N. Broad St. – complainant said two men approached him from behind and robbed him at gunpoint. Offenders ran off with $100 and a cell phone.

3500 block N. 18th St. – complainant said a man robbed him and forced him to perform sexual acts. Complainant said he had met the man a couple months ago and ran into him again April 9 while waiting for the bus. The man invited him to his apartment. The offender then pointed a knife at the complainant and forced him to perform oral sex on him.  The offender also stole his wallet containing $11, an ID card and a cell phone. The offender let the complainant leave the apartment after keeping him captive for more than eight hours.

2600 block W. Clearfield St. – complainant said he had a verbal altercation with another student, who pulled out a knife and threatened to cut him. A witness said the offender handed her the knife to hold. The witness then turned the knife over to a teacher. The offender was later arrested.

3200 block N. 15th St. – copper wire stolen from a pole. A witness said she saw the offender holding a ladder, which he climbed to cut the pole. Police arrived at the scene to find the offender working on the pole with a hatchet. The offender was then arrested.

April 13, 2011

5400 block Wissahickon Ave. – 1993 Mercury Marquis stolen sometime after 2 a.m. April 13 from an apartment complex.

3500 block Indian Queen Lane – three GPS devices, cell phone charger, radio, CDs, medications and two electric drills stolen from four cars. The items were taken from a 2003 Honda Accord, 2005 Volkswagen GTI, 1997 Honda Accord and another vehicle. The incidents occurred between 3 a.m. April 12 and 10 a.m. April 13.

3500 block N. 17th St. – seven windows and a 40’ ladder stolen from the property between 6:30 p.m. April 12 and 8:30 a.m. April 13. The homeowner said the house is vacant and currently being rehabbed. He said the house was locked at the time.

3000 block N. 23rd St. – 2004 Ford Freestar containing a car seat and GPS stolen between 11-12 a.m. April 12.

April 14, 2011

3600 block Vaux St. – two tires stolen from a 2009 Honda Fit between 5 p.m. April 12 and 7:40 a.m. April 14.

2900 block W. Hunting Park Ave. – radio and laptop stolen from a 2003 Chevy Tahoe.

1600 block W. Tioga St. – brief case, purse, $30, a PDA and more stolen from a 2005 Chevy Cobalt and another vehicle at the location.

2400 block W. Hilton St. – 25 Playstation 2 games, pair of Nike sneakers, leather bag and various coins stolen from the property. Complainant said someone entered at 10 a.m. April 14 through the rear of the house. She said the offender fled from a second floor bedroom and out of the house after the complainant saw the man.
