New Castle County

090117delartAssemblage: A Regional Collective of Women Artists, through September 3rd

Assemblage is a group of 17 women artists from the greater Philadelphia area. While the artists exhibit individually throughout the region, they work toward exhibiting collectively once a year. The artists work in various media and include the figure, animals, architecture, nature, and both realistic and abstract forms in their designs. Painting, printmaking, and drawing with bright colors and monochrome tones, three-dimensional pieces, and found objects contribute to the diversity of each artist’s styles. Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington.

 

090117hagleyPicture Hagley: Photography Walk at Hagley Museum, September 7th

Visitors can take advantage of this unique opportunity to see the grounds of Hagley in a different light and meet one of our guides for a stroll through the property. Photography beginners or experts will enjoy this experience as they have the opportunity to photograph areas off the usual visitor route. Ability to walk some distance and carry your own equipment is necessary. Time allowed: up to 3 hours. Please note that this is not a workshop. Photographers should understand how to use their own equipment and no training or assistance will be provided with equipment. Hagley Museum and Library, Wilmington.

Ustad Shafaat Khan, world-renowned Indian classical musician, has performed worldwide at many prestigious concert halls, music festivals and universities all over India, America, Europe, China, Russia, and Japan. Recently, he performed with Stevie Wonder at one of the biggest festivals in the USA, the Bonnaroo Festival. In the past, he has shared a television concert with Ray Charles in Germany. In the rich history of Indian classical music, Mr. Khan has distinguished himself by being the first known artist to have attained simultaneous excellence in performing sitar, surbahar, and tabla. This high-energy musical experience is a note-perfect and visually accurate recreation of a Bruce Springsteen & The E St. Band show. Matt Ryan began playing the Springsteen character in 2000 in the “Legends In Concert” Las Vegas show. The band consists of seasoned professional musicians — from acts or bands such as Queen, Meatloaf, Hall and Oates, The Temptations and Slash — which has taken this genre of performances to a whole new level.
