13,000 jobs to be cut at Merck & Co. Inc.

Despite a profit jump, New Jersey based Merck & Co. Inc. on Friday announced it would cut an additional 13,000 jobs by 2015.

According to Philly.com, the company has reported high quarterly sales and profit, but still plans to make the job cuts.

It’s unclear how many of the cuts would come out of the company’s Montgomery County facility, which Philly.com reports employs nearly 12,000 people.

Philly.com reports the company’s second-quarter sales rose 7 percent to $12.15 billion from $11.35 billion in the same quarter last year.
