WHYY Semiquincentennial Projects: In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, WHYY presents a powerful collection of programs commemorating the Semiquincenntennial in our City of Brotherly Love.


The Declaration’s Journey traces the modern global impact of America’s Declaration of Independence from Jefferson’s pen to movements for freedom around the world in a 10-part series. In partnership with the Museum of the American Revolution, the series explores how its words inspired revolutions, challenged injustice, and continue to shape our shared pursuit of equality.

In the Margins uncovers overlooked stories and marginalized voices left out of mainstream history. In 2026, WHYY will produce Season 2 for PBS Digital Studios, featuring 10 episodes centered on stories from The American Revolution that made America.

Independence Storytelling Podcast, airing on WHYY-FM throughout 2026, asks locals to reflect on our nation’s past and our future. It showcases a variety of regional voices sharing their memories of what it means to be an American and their hopes for what tomorrow holds.

Young People’s Continental Congress is a documentary special moderated by Studio 2 host, Avi Wolfman-Arent, that features high school students from around the country who have come together to reflect on the ideals laid out in our founding documents; continue the debates and discussions started over 250 years ago; and share their hopes for our future.

Taproom Revolutions explores the city’s brewing roots through a series of WHYY audio stories and events. Philadelphia 250 brings together all WHYY News coverage of the nation’s semiquincentennial. The dedicated WHYY microsite highlights the local history, arts, and culture defining the spirit of America’s 250th and examines socioeconomic impact of this historic milestone on the region.

America at 250: A Community Conversation engages diverse Philadelphia communities in a WHYY News civic dialogue series with the McNeil Center for Early American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, connecting the city’s Revolutionary past to the present-day themes of liberty, democracy, and citizenship.

We, the Pigeons tunes into the only talk show hosted by a curious pigeon who loves history almost as much as she loves soft pretzels! Each guest offers a nugget of American history aimed at sparking curiosity in early elementary school students.
