Philadelphia native Sharyn Flanagan is the editor of Billy Penn. As a journalist, editor and communications strategist, she is committed to community-centered storytelling and bringing a wide range of voices and perspectives to the work. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, she has built a career spanning local and national newsrooms, nonprofit communications and community engagement.
Before joining Billy Penn, Flanagan served as news editor at The Philadelphia Tribune, leading print and digital production and overseeing major editorial initiatives, including its annual health series, in addition to the Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month editions. Her career also includes writing and editing roles at USA TODAY, The Associated Press, The Tallahassee Democrat and the Bucks County Courier Times, as well as communications leadership at SELF Inc., where she supported community engagement and efforts to address homelessness.
She brings to Billy Penn a deep knowledge (and love) of Philadelphia and a belief in journalism that helps people understand their city and the issues that shape it.
