Eric Walter (he/him) is news editor for PlanPhilly and the WHYY News business desk. Over a career spanning public media, local journalism and entertainment, Eric has helped organizations tell stories that inform, engage and, every now and then, raise an eyebrow.
At WHYY, he developed digital storytelling and civic engagement strategies that connected the newsroom with the communities it covers. At MTV Networks, he created digital and branded campaigns for television series including RuPaul’s Drag Race. At Minnesota Public Radio, he produced digital content and newsletters for nationally distributed programs including A Prairie Home Companion, The Splendid Table and On Being. He is also co-editor of the NLGJA Stylebook on LGBTQ+ Terminology.
Eric is a proud South Philadelphian, but he remains loyal to his Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings. Outside the newsroom, he is a devoted, if not entirely successful, gardener and serves as emotional support human to a spoiled cat named Puck. His literary life started with Douglas Adams. And Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and his mother made him the man he is today.
