Mozart: Quintet in A major, K. 581 was written for Austrian clarinet player Anton Stadler in 1789. The Clarinet Quintet instrumentation consists of one clarinet and a string quartet. The clarinet often has a place in the orchestra but this is the first time the clarinet is highlighted. If this piece sounds familiar, it might be because it was in the final 1983 episode of MASH.
