Remembering Vietnam

With Memorial Day right around the corner, it’s the right time to honor those who have fought to protect our country. Forty years ago, at the end of the Vietnam War, returning vets weren’t always recognized for their sacrifices. In our First Look, we find that recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have reshaped how we honor those who fought in Vietnam.

There’s no replacement for old-fashioned police work, but new technology certainly helps. The Wilmington Police Department recently launched Nixle, a new emergency-alert system designed for law enforcement. The department predicts that Nixle will help its officers become even more efficient.

The world view of DSU

In recent years, Delaware State University has prioritized the recruitment of international students. In addition to creating a more diverse campus, the practice gives the school’s students meaningful exposure to other cultures. We learn that this policy brings more opportunity to the state’s only historically black university.

First Person: Collin O’Mara

DNREC secretary Collin O’Mara announced earlier this month that he will resign his post and become President and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. O’Mara joins us this week to discuss the decision and the legacy of his work in Delaware.

First Experience: The “Bomb-itty of Errors”

2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the City Theatre Company. With William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday occurring this month, CTC is paying tribute to The Bard with a new take on the Shakespeare classic “Comedy of Errors”. Mix in some rap and hip-hop, add a live DJ and you get the “Bomb-itty of Errors”, a Shakespearean rap musical. It’s our First Experience this week.
