NJ pinelands pipeline and PA fracking update

Listen

Guests: Robert Fatzinger, Jeff Tittel, Katie Colaneri

South Jersey Gas wants to build a natural gas pipeline through 14 miles of New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve.  The pipeline would allow a southern New Jersey power plant to convert from coal to natural gas but a debate has erupted over the environmental impact to the forests and wetlands in the one million acre reserve. Marty discusses the pros and cons of the proposed pipeline with ROBERT FATZINGER, Senior Vice President of Engineering and System Integrity for South Jersey Gas and JEFF TITTEL, Director of the New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club.  Then, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court recently struck down a 2012 law that curbed municipalities’ power to regulate natural gas drilling.  We’ll talk about what this ruling means for future of fracking in the state with KATIE COLANERI, a reporter for StateImpact Pennsylvania and WHYY.
