Would-be Liberty Bell bomber to face trial
A former assistant professor from Arizona State University is being held for trial on $250,000 cash bail following an incident at the Liberty Bell. Back in January the man claimed to have an explosive device in his backpack.
The bag that 41-year-old Carlos Balsas of Temple, Ariz., was carrying did not in fact contain any explosives, but his alleged threat was taken quite seriously by the security screener.
Balsas, a native of Portugal who, according to Philly.com taught urban planning, will be tried for allegedly making bomb threats, possessing an instrument of crime and making a false alarm.
