York businessman Tom Wolf cruised to an easy victory in the Pennsylvania Democratic gubernatorial primary, setting up a race with Gov. Tom Corbett in the fall.

Wolf said he was “the luckiest person on the face of the Earth right now” as he addressed supporters at a minor-league baseball stadium, pledging to spend more on education if he defeats Corbett. He said it’s time again to invest in education, asking “how about that for a change?”

Gov. Corbett was joined by New Jersey and fellow Republican Gov. Chris Christie who pledged to support Corbett’s re-election.

Corbett is rated as one of the most vulnerable governors in the nation.  He told a crowd in Pittsburgh “We’re going to keep on pushing forward, we’re going to roll on to victory in November.”

Even before the primary was over, Republicans have been targeting Wolf with a TV ad and several mailings.

In the Democratic primary, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz was the closest competitor to Wolf, but she wasn’t that close.  Schwartz, who is giving up her seat in Congress to make this run for governor threw her support behind Wolf.

“Even though I won’t have the honor of serving as your governor, and I would have loved to, I know that we will work together to take on new challenges in the future and to do great things for Pennsylvania and this country,” she told supporters in her concession speech.

Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord also endorsed Wolf, saying he trusts the Democratic primary winnter to find a way to spend more on education even with tight state budgets.  “That’s an acute issue and I know Tom Wolf will continue to drive that issue and Tom Corbett really has no bold approaches here whatsoever,” McCord said.

“luckiest person on the face of the Earth right now.”
