Winning bid for Media building comes from Philadelphia restauranteur

Built in 1927 as a post office, 1 W. State St. in Media will soon be in the hands of Claudio Sandolo, owner of Philadelphia’s Spasso Italian Grill.

Sandolo’s bid of $670,000 out-priced a proposal by the Heritage Design Collaborative, but didn’t sit well with some council members who preferred HDC’s preference for a more historical look.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports the building has been vacant since late 2009, after its second go-round as a restaurant. Before that, it served as the post office and then the borough hall.

The deal won’t be finalized until the settlement.
