Wilmington Police: Suspicious package was ‘some type of food product’

Federal and local authorities are investigating a report of a suspicious package at a downtown Wilmington building.

Authorities say a package with some sort of circuitry and a China address on it was reported in the mail room Friday at the American Life Insurance Company building. That building has been evacuated, and authorities are continuing to investigate.

Separately, officials evacuated a post office and limited access to the ING Direct building after an ING associate came into contact with a package that he feared was suspicious. That worker was taken to the hospital after he reported feeling sick. But police say the package was not a threat and has been determined to have been some sort of expired food product. Police say the illness is not connected to the package.
