Wildfire that started in forest grows to over 100 acres

Authorities are battling a wildfire that’s exceeded 100 acres in southern New Jersey.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the New Jersey Forest Fire Service says the Phillips Bridge wildfire had consumed 113 acres and was about 75 percent contained by Sunday night.

Authorities say the wildfire broke out in Wharton State Forest in Shamong Township earlier in the day. Firefighters spent the day trying to control the blaze as helicopters took water from Atsion Lake to douse the flames.
