What a piece of work is man

Our bipedal species was born to run.  The range of characteristics on display at the Boston Marathon was overwhelmingly positive.  The vast majority of the runners certainly weren’t in it to win.

Many ran for a sick relative or friend, raising money for breast cancer research, or hoping to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.  Or, poignantly, to help support the families of the Newtown victims.

The selflessness, caring and altruism on display when the bombs went off are Homo sapiens at his and her best.

Those who chose to kill and maim as many people as possible exposed the sick, cowardly and bigoted underside of our species.  Yet, that doesn’t change the fact that Homo sapiens were born to run, and run we will, in the determined thousands, in the next marathon.
