Westboro Baptist plans picket of Penn State home game event

“College in this country is nothing more than a giant party, with a few classes set to instruct in sin thrown in for good measure.”

We may have all thought that from time to time, but it’s the thesis behind the picket Westboro Baptist Church has scheduled at Saturday’s Penn State football game. The radical religious group most recently made headlines for planning a protest at Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ funeral.

The team will play its last home game of the season Saturday without coach Joe Paterno, who was fired this week in the aftermath of the university’s child sex abuse scandal. Westboro aligns the scandal with similar cases of sexual abuse and cover-up in the Catholic church and the military — both frequent targets of WBC pickets.
