Bringing alumni together with current students at West Oak Lane Charter School

West Oak Lane Charter School will host its first alumni day, entitled “In Search of YOU – Our past, our present, and future,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The event will provide alumni from the graduating classes of 2003 through 2011 to reunite with current students, faculty, founding members, administration and the board of trustees. Guests will be able to tour the expanded school.

There will also be a luncheon to honor distinguished alumni as both the school’s 15-year anniversary and charter-school renewal process approach.

Chief academic officer Sheila Royal Moses said alumni will also help WOLCS launch a mentoring program between alumni and existing students.

There will also be roundtable discussions which school CEO Dr. Debbera Peoples-Lee thinks will help current students to start thinking about their futures.

“It will help prepare our middle-schoolers for what they need to do right now to get into the high schools and colleges they want,” she said. “Who better to tell them than their peers?”
