Democratic U.S. senate candidate Katie McGinty from Pennsylvania used her speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention Thursday to take shots at her rival incumbent Republican Senator Pat Toomey.
McGinty, a former chief of staff to Pennsylvania’s current governor ,Tom Wolf, likened Toomey to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump
“Now, we could respond with more scapegoating and fear mongering. That’s the tack of Donald Trump and my opponent, Pat Toomey. ‘Just blame the Mexicans. Blame the Muslims. Blame the government. Build a wall.’ For goodness sake, the Donald even blamed the Pope! My dear mother, God rest her soul, would be turning over in her grave,” said McGinty.
What McGinty did not mention is that Toomey, a Republican, has has sharply criticized Trump for many of his positions, and did not support him during the primary race.
He has so far refused to endorse the nominee, and he skipped the Republican convention last week in Cleveland.
