Officials in Barnegat are recommending that residents of a section of the township voluntarily evacuate ahead of the impending coastal storm.

In a release issued by the Barnegat Office of Emergency Management and Barnegat Police Department, residents between the Barnegat Municipal Bathing Beach and the East Bay Avenue Bridge are recommended to evacuate the area no later than 6:00 p.m. tomorrow.

“Flooding will likely make Bayshore Drive in the area of the bathing beach impassable to vehicles,” the release said. “Residents who remain behind may find themselves without power and unable to leave the area until floodwaters recede sometime late Sunday.”

Forecasters expect minor coastal flooding in Monmouth County and widespread moderate to localized major in counties to the south.
