Virgina Tech on lockdown following reports of gunman

Update: The alert was lifted around 2:40 p.m., but there is still an increased police presence on campus. There have been no additional spottings of a  possible gunman.

Original report: In at least one Virgina Tech classroom, the professor is still teaching as students remain on lockdown following a report of a gunman on campus this morning.

USA Today reports the campus was still on lockdown at 11:30, after three students reported seeing a man carrying what could be a gun around 9:30 a.m.

It’s been more than four years since a gunman opened fire on the campus, killing 32 people. Today’s reports detailed a “white male, 6 feet tall, with light brown hair…wearing a blue and white striped shirt (stripes were vertical), gray shorts and brown sandals” spotted near the Dietrick Hall dining area.
