Verna won’t seek re-election

Philadelphia City Council President Anna Verna has announced she won’t seek re-election.  The 79-year-old likely made the decision not to seek office again because she’s enrolled in DROP. While she’d be allowed to seek another term after taking her pension, the city hasn’t looked kindly on other who’ve chosen to do so.

Verna expressed gratitude to her colleagues and 2nd District constituents. She’ll hold a press conference at noon, from which WHYY’s Tom MacDonald will report.
