Two runners die during Philadelphia Marathon

    Two runners died during the Philadelphia Marathon today.

    In a statement, marathon executives said they could not disclose the identities of the runners, pending notification of the families.

    “Philadelphia Marathon and Philadelphia Half Marathon organizers extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the two runners who lost their lives at the Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon today,” Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend Executive Director Melanie Johnson said.

    A report from CBSPhilly.com says the two runners died of apparent heart attacks. According to CBSPhilly.com, the two were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
