Two recent longshoremen deaths and several years without port death

There hadn’t been a fatal accident at Philadelphia’s ports in 11 years when Carmen “Chuckie” DiRago died earlier this month at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal in South Philadelphia.

Eight days later, Vernon Knight fell to his death at Tioga Marine Terminal in Port Richmond.

The Inquirer reports OSHA in investigating the accidents, but the administration has up to six months to complete that task. Today we’ll hear from WHYY’s Tom MacDonald as speaks with Local 1291 of the International Longshoremen’s Association.
