Two of three mayoral candidates confirmed for tonight’s forum

Independent Philadelphia mayoral candidate Diop Olugbala has organized a candidate forum tonight, but so far Republican candidate Karen Brown is the only other one to confirm.

A release detailing tonight’s event at 6:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church in Center City says Mayor Michael Nutter has been invited, but hasn’t yet confirmed his appearance.

Olugbala lists the topics of tonight’s forum as follows:

2nd highest child hunger rate in U.S.
43% of children in Phila on food stamps
50% of African community lives below poverty line
75% of some communities in North & West Philly living in poverty!
Nutter’s 9pm weekend youth curfew and Stop & Frisk policing policies criminalize & target African youth
“Unemployed black men in their 30s-50s will likely never work again” – Daily News

Brown and Nutter went head-to-head last night for a Fox29 debate to be aired Friday, and PhillyClout reports today Brown has filed a complaint against NBC10 demanding equal air time after Nutter’s live town hall meeting last week. She has also scheduled two town halls this week she says will take place “with or without” Nutter.
