Two new schools open in one Delaware district

Two new schools in Delaware are opening in the same school district for the new academic year.

The Appoquinimink School District is hosting a grand opening tonight (Wednesday) for Spring Meadow Early Childhood Center in Townsend.  The school will serve kindergarteners and pre-K students.  The ceremony at 611 Campus Drive, off Old State Road, will begin at 6:30.  Thursday, Old State Elementary at 580 Marchio Drive will be dedicated starting at 6:30 p.m.  Old State will be home to about 840 students in grades one-through-five.  Appoquinimink voters approved the new construction in a 2009 referendum.  No tax increase was necessary due to a growing tax base of new homeowners and businesses and the retirement of older bonds.
