Trolleys to talk
Anthony Campisi over at PlanPhilly is reporting that the SEPTA’s subway-surface trolleys are about to get their own voices:
SEPTA is installing annunciators to make trolley route names and major stops. When completed, the trolleys will make announcements similar to those of buses. The authority has enabled these announcements on “a handful” of trolleys so far, according to spokesman Andrew Busch. The voices should be enabled on all trolleys by the end of the month, Busch said, adding that this was part of a larger customer-service effort on SEPTA’s part to provide more information to riders. In the past year, SEPTA has updated the announcements on the Market-Frankford El and the Broad Street Line in the past year to provide new information about attractions at stops.
