Video: Tribute to Drumming Legends at Woodmere

The Woodmere Museum in Chestnut Hill is more than paintings, it is also becoming a venue for live jazz performances. On May 18, the Woodmere presented a tribute to three great drummers: Max Roach, Art Blakey, and Philly Joe Jones.

The event was hosted by Warren Oree the stand-up bassist for and leader of the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble.

It featured guest drummers; Lucky Thompson performing in the style of Art Blakey, Greg “JuJu” Jones for Max Roach and Tony “Stickman” Wyatt as “Philly” Joe Jones.

The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble performed alongside each individual drummer separately, and then altogether as one large group, and each drummer also performed several solos.
