Trial to begin one year after Lakewood police officer’s murder

One year and three days after Lakewood Police Officer Christopher Matlosz was killed, the trial for his accused murderer will begin.

Jahmell W. Crockam is set for trial Jan. 17, the Asbury Park Press reports, and faces life in prison without parole if convicted. Crockam was arrested shortly after the shooting, which happened when Matlosz stopped Crockam for questioning.

Crockam was later charged with another, unrelated murder. Matlosz is the first officer to be fatally shot on duty in Ocean County.
