Tree software helps calculate economic value

How much is the tree on your front lawn saving you in energy costs? How much stormwater does it absorb? The trees you see everyday are more than pretty, and certainly more than sidewalk-skewing squirrel habitats.

As Peter Crimmins reports for WHYY, iTree, U.S. Forest Service software, can help calculate the actual economic value of a tree. It’ll come in handy as the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society moves forward with its Plant One Million project to add 100 trees to the tri-state area.
