Toms River is hiring police officers

    The Toms River Police Department will soon be accepting applications for the position of probationary police officer, the department announced today. 

    The application period is between May 1 and July 31 at 11:59 p.m., according to department spokesman Ralph Stocco. 

    Candidates must have a four year college degree or a minimum of 64 college credits and two years of full-time active military experience or two years of full-time regular police experience at the time the application is submitted, Stocco said. 

    The starting salary for a probationary officer is $41,616, the spokesman added.

    Toms River, the Ocean County seat, has a population of approximately 88,791 residents within 43 square miles. The police department consists of 300 employees, including 160 sworn officers.
