Toddler recuperating after being run over by car

A southern New Jersey toddler who authorities say was accidentally run over by her mother’s car remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Egg Harbor Township police say the 14-month-old girl suffered head injuries in the accident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. She was struck when she ran into the path of the car driven by 23-year-old township resident Christina Rodriguez, who was backing down a driveway at a Flatbush Avenue home.

Authorities say the vehicle continued in reverse after the child was struck, and she was pinned underneath the vehicle. Neighbors alerted the mother about what had happened, and the vehicle was stopped.

The neighbors then extricated the child from under the vehicle.
