The other birds

Eagles fans may feel propriety over the nickname, but let’s refer to this team of young stars simply as the birds.  They sure have earned it.

We are, of course, talking about the North Philly Blackhawks, now of Philadelphia football fame, who dominated their opponents throughout the season and the Pop Warner Super Bowl to capture the 2010 National Super Bowl Championship.

Now, the city will honor the 10 to 12 year olds, along with the regional champ Frankford Chargers, with a parade down North Broad Street that will run to the team’s field at 11th Street and Cecil B. Moore Ave.  The parade begins at 2:00 Saturday afternoon and ends with a 3:00 ceremony at the field.
